Dog Beds

Dog Beds.. Choosing the Right Dog Bed

When choosing a dog bed, keep these important considerations in mind:

• Keep in mind the size, age and health of your dog while you think about the kinds of dog beds in which your dog will be most comfortable. Many breeds of small and toy dogs like beds they can burrow down into to keep warm.

• Check to see if the covering on the bed is removable and washable. A washable cover is a necessity since it will surely get dirty over time.

• For older dogs, you might want to consider a dog bed that is constructed mainly of memory foam or filled with springs, much like those made for people. These orthopedic dog beds will help ensure a restful night for older pets or for those recuperating from surgery or treatment.

• Try to match the dog bed to the overall “look” of the room in which you'll be keeping it. With so many options in fancy dog beds, you no longer have to hide an unsightly bed.

• Consider what you want to spend. From conventional to designer dog beds, there are prices and styles ranging far and wide to meet your budgetary needs.

• Find a bed that is the right size for your dog. Your dog should be able to lie flat, completely stretched out on his or her side without hanging off the edge of the bed. Large dog beds are usually roomy and comfortable, perfect for your Great Dane or Saint Bernard, while small dog beds are sized to accommodate Yorkies, Chihuahuas and Pomeranians without being cramped or engulfing.
